Mrs. Albertha G. Middleton, 94, was born January 4, 1918 on St. Helena Island, South Carolina to the proud parents of Adam and Laura Green. Albertha moved from South Carolina to Savannah and lived a beautiful life here. In the early morning hours on Saturday, June 23, 2012, she heard the dispatched angels' voices informing her that our Lord had summoned her from labor to reward, wanting her to join Him for eternal life in His Heavenly home.
Albertha was educated in the School systems of South Carolina. Upon leaving South Carolina, she moved to Savannah, GA where she met and married Henry Middleton. The two were proud parents of five children and shared 40 years of marriage before his death in 1974. She was Christian woman and was a member of St. John Baptist Church where you could find her in attendanc. In her latter years, failing health kept her from attending regularly.
Albertha was a working mother who was employed at Williams Seafood before retiring. Her fondest enjoyment in life were her children and grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Henry Middleton; granddaughter, Gail A. Biggins; two sisters, Evangelist Henrietta Robinson and Minister "Lou" Jones.
She is survived by: her devoted daughter, Geraldine Walker (Benjamin), Savannah, GA; stepdaughter, Marion Manigo, Greensboro, North Carolina; four sons, John H. Middleton, Savannah, GA, Clarence Middleton, Lockport, New York, Carnell Middleton, Pooler, GA and Donald Middleton (Gwendolyn), Pooler, GA; nine grandchildren, Vickie Scott (Erroll), Harry "Slack-Slugger" Warren (Abir), Clarence Middleton, Jr., Jacuan Middleton, Caunja Middleton, Johnell Middleton, Brandon Middleton, Tyrone Griffin and Niegel Middleton; sister, Viola Black, Beaufort, SC; brother William Sumpter; thirty three great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; special friend, Cynthia Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, June 28, 2012 from St. John Baptist Church, The Mighty Fortress, 522-28 Hartridge Street. Rev. Dr. George P. Lee III, officiating. Interment, Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery. Reposing at the church, Thursday, 9:00 am until hour of service.
