Alphonso "Sonny" Wilson

October 31, 9146 — July 30, 2013

Alphonso "Sonny" Wilson was born on October 31, 9146, in Savannah, Georgia to the late John & Ruby Julia Grant Wilson, who loved their first born dearly. Alphonso enjoyed life and he met very few strangers. His life ended with a peaceful transition on July 30, 2013.

Alphonso was loved by many. He was affectionately known as Al, Sonny, Dad, Noggit, and other terms of endearment.

Al was educated in the Catholic School of West Savannah, and in the Chatham County Public Schools where he graduated in the 1964 class of Sophornia M. Tompkins High School. He attended Savannah State for a brief time before being inducted into the U.S. Army where her served 1 year state side and 1 year in Vietnam defending our Country. Upon his return to the states he worked for the U.S. Postal Service, and years later became an independent business owner. Alphonso had a talent for turning wood into beautiful cabinets, some of which are still in homes in Savannah today.

He was brought up as an active member of Townsley Chapel A.M.E. Church in West Savannah. Al was a master of the pool table, he also loved tennis, fishing, ping pong and horseshoes.

Al will be remembered as a loving father, brother, uncle, and friend.

Al departed this life to early at the age of 66, at the Memorial Medical Hospital in Savannah.

Celebrating his home going are his loving and faithful son, Damon Todd Wilson (Vivian Ganesh), Dallas, TX; Damon's mother, Alvernia S. Jackson (Roy), Savannah, GA; his loving little-big sister, problem solver, Gwendolyn Wilson Williams, Atlanta, GA; his devoted, loving brother-in-law, Mack Williams, Jr., Atlanta, GA; niece, Mickell A. Williams, Atlanta, GA, who always enjoyed spending time with her Uncle Sonny trying to master his pool shooting techniques; grandnephews, MacKenzie L. Leonard, Atlanta, GA, LaZavier J. Williams, Christian J. Williams, Atlanta, GA; grandniece, Makiya J. Williams, Atlanta, GA; special aunt, Rebecca H. Johnson (Elijah), Savannah, GA; and many loving aunts, cousins, and friends. I must mention his special cousins that were always there for him, Gus Smith, and Booker T. Blake, and his friend and running buddy, Thomas Daniel.

Al will be truly missed by his entire family. He always had a welcoming smile and lots of love to share.

Visitation 5pm-7pm, Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Williams and Williams Funeral Home, 1012 E. Gwinnett St., (912) 234-1634. Graveside Service will be held on Monday, August 5, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Magnolia Memorial Gardens, 5532 Silk Hope Road. Interment will follow immediately after the service.
