Arizona Jenkins Green

July 9, 1929 — April 6, 2013

Mrs. Arizona J. Green was born on July 9, 1929, on Daufuskie Island, South Carolina to the late Robert Lee and Hester M. Jenkins.

She was educated in the public schools of South Carolina and subsequently moved to Savannah, Georgia. Arizona was joined in Holy matrimony to Mr. James Green, Sr. To this union one son was born.

Mrs. Green was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church for over 50years where she sang in the Senior Choir, taught Sunday School, and served on the Program Committee. She helped to organize and served as advisor of the Number 2 Usher Board. She was the Church Secretary and was a dedicated Deaconess.

She was employed by Chatham Nursing Home where she rendered exceptional service until her retirement. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Savannah Chapter #159 Order of Eastern Stars.

Arizona was preceded in death by: her husband, James Green, Sr.; and brother, Grover Cleveland Jenkins.

She leaves to cherish her memories: son, James Green, Jr.; two grandchildren, Jamella A. Green and James Green, III; two great-grandchildren, Demond Thompson, Jr. and Jade Simmons; sisters-in-law, Ester Williams (George), Carolyn Leola Wallace, and Janie Williams; brothers-in-law, Christopher Green, Jr., William Green (Mary), and Benjamin Green (Edith); special friend, Maude Deloris Housey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service for Mrs. Arizona Green will be held 12pm Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, 601 East Henry Street. Reposing at the Church Thursday 10am until hour of service. Interment Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
