Bertha L. Anderson 72 mother of Stephanie Anderson passed away Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Hospice Savannah surrounded by her loving family. Bertha Leigh Anderson (Peggy) was born to the late Bertha Mae Godfrey and Frank Haynes on March 2, 1947. She was a native of Savannah, Georgia and resided in the Pin Point and Sandfly Communities.
Bertha attended Haven Home School and Sol C. Johnson High School graduating class 1965. She retired from Georgia Regional Hospital after serving over 30 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Peggy was a member of Sweetfield of Eden Baptist Church. During her youth, she was an avid softball player and was the neighborhood tomboy. Peggy also loved to bowl. She bowled in several leagues – The Kings and Queens League, Senior League and traveled to many bowling tournaments.
Peggy was a very vital member in the PinPoint and Sandfly communities. She loved to cook and feed the flock, garden, take care of the sick and shut -in and her alltime favorite past time hobby was scratch offs! She had a heart of gold. She would give anyone the shirt off her back, food to eat and the last dime in her pocket. She believed in treating individual with courtesy and respect. If you ever called on her, she was there to lend a helping hand. She believed in having an open door to people as well. She was there to help, nurture, rear children, heal, advise and listening ear. Peggy was an amazing mother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and confidant to many.
Bertha gained her wings on November 10, 2019. She was preceded in death by both parents, Bertha Mae Godfrey and Frank Haynes; two sisters, Margaret and Delores Anderson; one brother, Samuel Godfrey; Aunts, Janie Johnson, Elizabeth, Theresa and Mary Francis Haynes; Nephew, Willie Spaulding; niece, Ashley Grant.
Bertha (Peggy) leaves to cherish her beautiful memories, her loving daughter Stephanie Anderson; four sisters, Joyce Campbell, Amariah McIntosh, Pamela Haynes and Wanda (Gerald) Evans; Two brothers, Warren (Dorothy) Godfrey, and Vincent Michael (Gwendolyn) Godfrey; A special sister Patricia Wingster; Aunt, Clara Mabry; eleven nieces Iona Anderson, Annie Anderson, Donna Haynes, Vanessa Jones, Yvonne Anderson, Katie Spaulding, Renee Oswell, Carol Upshaw, Sabrina (James) Putney, Christina Anderson, Teffanie Lowe; nine nephews, Kevin McKiever, Tony Haynes, Rodney (Torran) Anderson Sr., Franklim (Kayla) McIntosh, Ronald (DeAngela) McIntosh, Jerald Evans, Zykee Evans, Tarell Evans, Vincent Godfrey Jr.; nineteen grand nieces, twenty-five grand nephews, thrity great grand nieces and nephews and two great-great grandnieces; two god sons, Vincent Godfrey and Michael Bostick; special nephew- Zykee Evans Jr.; Special niece – Dameria Allen; Adopted son and daughter Sisawo and Ayishatu Kanteh; special friend and co-worker, Elizabeth Norman, and dear and devoted friend Wilbur Clark
