Mrs. Betty Gattis Thaggard, 90, of Savannah, went home to be with her Lord, Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at her residence, under the care of Hospice Savannah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Arthur Thaggard, of 56 years.
Born in Savannah, Ga., Betty was the daughter of Normie and Marie Gattis.
After graduating from college, Betty served as a missionary to Thailand for five years. She taught kindergarten and pre-k at Calvary Day School for nineteen years. After retiring from teaching, she continued to go to Calvary weekly to teach Bible to these young children.
Betty loved Calvary Day School and she and Arthur spent many hours supporting their beloved Cavaliers on the field and gym floor. They rarely missed a home game.
Betty was a member of Calvary Baptist where she was a long time teacher of the Hannah Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her two daughters, Donna Thaggard and Linda Thaggard Niblett (Joe), her three grandsons: Brendon, Jonathan, and Mark Niblett, her sister, Peggy Edenfield and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Lisa Hurt for the loving care she provided for Betty and Arthur over the last two years.
Visitation: 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Temple.
Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Monday, at Calvary Baptist Temple, with interment in Bonaventure Cemetery.
