Beulah Merle Smith Hodges, 97, of Savannah, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Hospice Savannah, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Portal, Ga., and was preceded in death by her parents, Flanders Smith and Beulah Ellen White Smith, and her husband, Joseph Gordon Hodges.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and had previously worked for both the M & M Supermarket and Byrd’s Supermarket for many years.
Mrs. Hodges was loved and respected by all who knew her, family Friends and co-workers. To those of us who were close to our Mema her passing leaves A void that cannot be filled, but we will cherish our memories of her.
She was a great homemaker, and enjoyed company, loved flowers; she focused on her children and grandchildren, and worked full time and managed the household. She was a Care Giver for her late husband until he passed away; she helped raise her grandchildren, and also cared for children of working mothers.
She is survived by 5 daughters, Evelyn Douglas (B.J.), Eubie Hodges Hendrix (John), Hilda Deason, Brenda Bazemore, and JoAnn Chester (Gary), 2 sisters, Floy Davis and Melrose Jones, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday at Baker McCullough Funeral Home.
Funeral Services: 11 a.m.Saturday in the Hubert C. Baker Chapel, of Baker McCullough Funeral Home, with Rev. Enoch Hendry, officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
