Charles Lanier Askew, Sr.

Charles Lanier Askew, Sr., 80, of Meldrim, Georgia, passed away, unexpectedly while attending a Revival at his Church, Meldrim Baptist Church.
He was born in Soperton, Georgia, and was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Watson Askew and Annie Laura Smith.
He was a veteran having served in the US Army, from 1958-1960.
He was retired after 41 years of service at Union Camp Paper Corporation,
He was a member of the Meldrim Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons, a member of the Sanctuary Choir, and the Faith In Action Sunday School Class. He also served as an usher, and greeter.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Spivey Askew, of Meldrim, Ga; two sons, Charles Lanier Askew, Jr., (Angie), and William Gregory Askew, three sisters, Ruth Askew and Sara Dees both of Winter Park, Fla., and Mae Wynn of Bartow, Fla; 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, at Baker McCullough Funeral Home,in Garden City, Ga.

Mr. Askew will be taken to his church, that he loved so much, Meldrim Baptist Church at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, to lie in state.
Funeral Services: 2 p.m. Thursday at Meldrim Baptist Church, with Rev. Chad Eason, officiating.
Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, at Meldrim,Ga.with Masonic Graveside Services being conducted by Richard T. Turner Chapel #116, F.&AM's.

Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Garden City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
