Ray Gaskin died peacefully at home on Tuesday morning April 12th, 2016 in Savannah, GA at the age of 84. Ray was born on February 2nd, 1932 in Savannah, GA. He graduated from Savannah High School and Auburn University. He served with the United States Air Force 117th squadron in Nashville, TN during his service years. He married his college sweetheart, Jenny Hurst in 1956. He studied law with local Attorney and Educator, Gilbert Johnson, and passed the Georgia Bar in 1962 and practiced law for many years in Savannah. He was elected the Savannah Bar Association President from 1980-1981 and also served as the President of the Savannah Trial Lawyer Association. Ray is remembered by both his children and grandchildren as a courageous, intelligent, driven, and energetic man, who lived his life actively participating in the pursuits of his heart. He was active with his church, Calvary Baptist Temple, acting as the church attorney for many years as well as serving as the church meeting moderator. He was an active member of his Masonic lodge and the Alee Temple Shiners Patrol. Ray was a proud member of the Pat West Sunday School class at Calvary. Ray was accomplished at speaking, leading, and engaging people during his professional and nonprofessional activities and often inspired others with his passion for his work and interests outside of work. He was also an avid outdoorsman who loved camping in the Smokey Mountains, fishing on the Herb River, and quail hunting in the Georgia woods. Ray is survived by his wife, Jennette Hurst Gaskin; his two sons and daughter in-laws, Ray Jr. and Angie Gaskin, David and Dorie Gaskin; three grandchildren: Jaynie, Katherine and David Jr. Gaskin; He is proceeded in death by his parents, Saxton Robert and Nancy Gaskin of Savannah, Ga. A visitation is scheduled for Friday April 15th, at Calvary Baptist Temple at 10:00AM-12:00PM with the funeral following at 12noon. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
