David Andrew Gildersleeve, 51, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct 20, 2019 of esophageal cancer. He was in his home, peacefully surrounded by his family pouring love into him and holding his hands. He fought long and hard - brave until the end. We love him so much and are so incredibly proud of him and his legacy.
David is survived by his wife, Samantha; two sons, JD (16) & Steven (12); parents, Jim & Robin Gildersleeve; sister, Mary Anne Baynes; extended family; and countless friends.
David was an incredible, well-loved and successful artist, showing at multiple galleries throughout the US. He previously taught at SCAD for 16 years and developed amazing connections and friendships with his students and fellow faculty. He will continue to show his art at galleries up and down the east coast - locally at AT Hun Gallery in City Market, Savannah.
We will be receiving friends and family from 5-6pm on Sunday, Oct 27, at the Bonaventure Funeral Chapel; his service will be held on Monday, Oct 28 at 2pm at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church; and his burial will follow at Bonaventure Cemetery.
