Deacon Joe "Captain Joe" Washington

March 23, 1921 — January 11, 2010

Mr. Joe Washington, 88, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Tara at Thunderbolt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was a very successful Shrimper. Mr. Washington was a Deacon at Litway Baptist Church where he was very active until his health failed. He leaves to cherish his memories: eight children, Joe Washington Jr., Henry (B Rock) Washington (Linda), Richard Washington (Sandra), Greg Washington (Renee), Jo Ann Washington-Wright (Lewis), Linda Washington-Sparrow (James), Alfreda Washington, Edith Washington- Swain; one brother, Jake Washington (Ollie Nell); two sisters, Lily McDonald, and Rosa L. Spaulding (who followed in her brothers footsteps on January 10th); fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Deacon Joe Washington will be held 12 Noon Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Litway Baptist Church, Shell Road, Rev. Dr. Leonard Small, officiating. Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery. Reposing at the Church 10 a.m., Saturday until hour of service.
