Mrs. Dorothy M. Berrien "Dot" was born November 10, 1927 in Savannah, Georgia to Anderson and Ruby Simmons. Her parents and daughter, Deborah, preceded her in death.
Dot was educated in the Chatham County School Systems. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Theodore Berrien whom also preceded her in death. Mrs. Berrien was employed by the Chatham County Court House until her retirement. She gave her life to the Lord and was baptized at Second Saint John Missionary Baptist Church.
Dot was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was also a loving daughter who cared for her mother until her death. To know Dot was to love her. She always had a beautiful smile, witty charm, zest for life and was an excellent soul food cook. Dot was famously known for her 6-8 layer Apple Jelly Cake.
On May 12, 2013, Mother's Day, Dot slipped into eternal rest.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: six sons; Eugene Curtis, Sr. (Freddie Mae), James Bernard Curtis, Sr. (Vondra), Marvin L. Curtis, Sr. (Arnette), Arnold A. Curtis (Denise), Roy Curtis (Jeanette), Robert Curtis (Jerri); one daughter, Emory Moorman (Hershel); one sister, Andrea Denise Best; twenty five grand children; forty one great-grand children; one great-great granddaughter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Berrien will be held Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM from Second St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1323 Golden Street. Interment, Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
