Mrs. Edith Palmer was born February 19, 1920 in Stillweel, Georgia to the late Viola Young and Frank W. Gaines. Mrs. Palmer passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on MArch 8, 2014.
She was educated in Clyo, Georgia and was a skilled homemaker. On February 7, 1938. At the age of 18, she married the love of her life, Ernest Palmer. to this union 6 children were born. Edith was a faithful member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church for 60+ years. She was a member of the senior choir and Mother Emeritus of the church.
Edith Palmer was a woman of few words but when she spoke, her family listened. She always had words of wisdom for all.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ernestine Greene; son-in-law, Enoch Mitchell, Jr.; and grandson, Barry Reedy.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughetr, Pearline Mitchell; four sons, Willie (Dorothy), James (Shirley), Joseph (Jackie), and Lamar (Linda); son-in-law, CharlesGreen; adopted daughter, Shirley Hendrix; two sisters, Mary Lou Cook and Pearlene Garvin; brother, James Gaines, Sr. three sisters-in-law, Callie Williams, Mary Thompkin and Lille Mae Palmer; Godchildre, Paulette Baxter and Rasheen Dorsey; 21 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 32 great great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and frinends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Edith PAlmer will be held 12:00 Noon Thursday, March 13, 2014 from New Zion Baptist Church, 202 fAir Street. Interment, Magnolia Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
