Mrs. Ernestine Hamilton - Savannah -Mrs. Ernestine Hamilton was called home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2007. Mrs. Hamilton was born in Savannah, GA, on November 22, 1928, to the late George Foreman and Florene Worthy Foreman. She was educated in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School system. Ernestine was married to Joseph Hamilton, Sr. on February 29, 1948, and to this union four sons were born, Joseph Arnold, Jr., James Marion, Sr., Michael Jerome, and David Lawrence Hamilton. Kind-hearted and generous, she devoted many hours of service to others including volunteering as a board member for Greenbriar Childrens Center. Her service to Savannah's school children spanned several decades as a teacher, reading specialist, counselor, and as principal of Thirty-Eighth Street School where she retired in 1990. Mrs. Hamilton had a passion for education. As a little girl, Ernestine first taught on the front steps of her home conducting her own classes for her neighborhood friends. As a homemaker, she taught neighborhood children. Mrs. Hamilton earned a Bacheleors and a Masters degree in Elementary Education. Her post graduate work earned her certification in Educational Supervision and Administration. Baptized as a child, Mrs. Hamilton was a long-time, faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She served in several capacities including Sunday School teacher, Junior League member, and Christian Education Coordinator. Implementing the vision of her husband, Joseph Hamilton, Sr., she became coordinator of the Senior Adult Ministry at Mount Zion Baptist Church. She was preceded in her homegoing by her husband, Joseph Hamilton, Sr.; her parents; four brothers, George, Theodore, Isadore, and Edward. Rejoicing in her memory: four loving sons, Joseph (Florence) Hamilton, Jr., James Hamilton, Sr., Michael Hamilton, David Hamilton; one brother-in-law, Herbert Stevens; one sister -in-law, Alethia Foreman; seven grandchildren, Ronnie (Georgina) Hamilton, Ursula (E. Rodney) Hamilton-Perry, Onika, Cleopatra, Anthony, Monique, and James, Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Teira, Tyler, Camden Gabrielle, Kalil, and Lavon; 13 nieces: Jeanne, Patricia (James), Rosalind, Sheila, Dorothy, Latricia, Sylvia (Marvin), Brenda, Phyllis, Debra (Eddie), Annette, Michelle, and Nicole; eight nephews, Raymond (Lathane), Gregory, Theodore, Jr., Reginald (Princess), George (Nancy), Michael (Rosa), David (Barbara), and Shun (Rosie); one Godson, Robert (Korkey); two adopted God-children, Tristan, and Kammarin. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1008 M.L. King, Jr. Blvd. Pastor Michael S. Stamps, officiating. Interment: Hillcrest Abbey East.
