Mr. Ervin Lee Stewart, 83, of Savannah, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 17, 2016 at St Joseph/Candler Hospital.
He was born in Savannah growing up amongst a family of eight brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife of 15 years, Carolyn Ann Sexton Stewart, of Leesville, La, and his oldest brother/wife, Benjamin Walter Stewart and Frieda Stewart.
He was a graduate of Commercial High School and Armstrong Junior College. He completed his 2-year service under the 158th Fighter Intercept Squadron, AFNG, during the Korean War. Returning from Japan, he continued another 20 years of service with the 165th Military Airlift Group, Savannah, Ga and retired as Master Sargent, E7.
He was a member of the Cobra Club, Savannah; a member of the VFW Post 3106, Leesville, La. His volunteer work to help create the War Memorials in downtown Leesville and the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery was his proudest achievement.
He was a Master Brick-Mason throughout his career. Examples of the Stewart family brick and stone work can be seen throughout the Savannah area and still stands today as a testament to their trade.
Survivors include his children, Wyndham Lee Stewart and Lindy, of Richmond Hill; Gregory Rahn Stewart of Savannah; mother of his children, Coleen Stewart Biezenbos; grandsons, W. Lee Stewart, Jr and Marjorie; Robert L. Stewart; great grandsons, Gordon W Stewart, Parker Solomon, Hutch I. Stewart; step daughter, Lola Brown( husband Tony) of Leesville, La.; brothers and sisters, Robert and Geraldine Stewart of Bloomingdale, Raymond and Vicky Stewart of Guyton, Joyce Mock of Garden City; Doris Stewart of Guyton; Lois and James Scott of Eden; Daniel and Becky Stewart of Windermere, Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends, Monday, March 21st, 2016 from 11 am to 12 am at Bonaventure Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon in the Bonaventure Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
