Eugene (Tank) Wallace, 66, died Friday, March 16, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 23, 2012 at Central Baptist Church, Hitch Village, with The Reverend Larry Stell officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Gardens-West.
Eugene was born on August 12, 1945 in Thompson, GA to Clara Wallace Hampton, who survives of Savannah. He was retired from the ILA local 1414 and was a member of Central Baptist Church. He was a very thoughtful person and always ready to lend a helping hand to any one in need. He was well known for telling stories and making people laugh.
In addition to his mother, survivors include: his wife, Mattie Smiley Wallace; a daughter, Eugenia Wallace; two sons, Anthony Wallace and Larry Wallace; two daughters, Yolanda Wallace and NaReka Wallace all of savannah; his former wife and mother of his children, Shirley Wallace; four step-daughters, Jameillah Smiley, Khadijah Flannings, Sharee Smiley and MarQuita Small all of Savannah; five brothers, Joseph Wallace, Clinton (Joyce) Wallace, Samuel Wallace and John Nelson all of Savannah and Thomas (Gwen) Nelson of Macon, GA; one sister, Peggy Nelson of Savannah; three sisters-in-law, Teresa Osborne, Marcella Cansler both of Savannah and Patricia (Bobby) Robinson of Atlanta; three brothers-in-law, Bernard Williams of Savannah and Richard (Lillie) Cansler of Atlanta and Alexander (Ruby) Smiley; twenty-two Grandchildren and two Great-Grandchildren and his beloved canine companion, Trouble; a special cousin, Bill McCoy; six special friends, Leroy Scott, Emmanuel Williams, William, Clifford Sanders and Lindale Davis and Alfred Williams.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Select Care, Hospice Savannah, Coastal Dialysis, Coastal EMS and Islands Healthcare for all of their assistance.
The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Thursday evening March 22, 2012 at Bonaventure Funeral Home.
