Evangelist Ethel Claude Green Oliver Carter

December 6, 1925 — March 7, 2017

Evangelist Ethel Maude Green Oliver-Carter was born to the late Clyde Green and Mary Green Gibson.

She was educated in the public schools of Savannah, Georgia. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Port Wentworth Baptist Church now Greater New Jerusalem Baptist Church. She continued to serve faithfully under the Pastorate of her nephew that she helped rear, Pastor Morris Glover. Evangelist Carter later relocated to New York in the early 1950's where she reunited with God Delivers Church in New York City. While living there she found employment in the Hotel Industry in the housekeeping department. She went on to later retire from the Quality Inn in Garden City, GA.

She returned to Port Wentworth during the later part of the 1970's and reunited with Port Wentworth Baptist Church. She was licensed to preach the Gospel and ordained by the late Pastor Joseph Fields in 1992. She continued to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ by volunteering at the homeless shelter. She was a member of the Grange Road Community Group where she served as the secretary. She loved to praise God and was also a member of the Grange Road Prayer Band that went house to house praying for sick community members. She was also known in the community as the "Hairdresser Lady". She loved to help others that needed help or a word of encouragement.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Gloria Hamilton; stepson, Elvo Richards; and her siblings, Marie Clark, Vacisy Gonzalez, Claudia Hudson, and Ernest Gibson.

She leaves to cherish her memories: granddaughters, Ms. Radiente McCoy of New York City and LaSaundra Roberts; grandson, Shawn Hamilton of New York City; adoptive daughter, Ms. Sandra Roberts of Savannah, GA; great grandchildren, Curtis Ray (Faye), of Savannah, GA, Rashaun Bivings of New York City,and Makayla Hamilton of Maryland; great great grandchildren, Honesty Ray, Cherish Ray, and Cavon Ray of Savannah, GA; sisters, Ms. Pauline Adrews of Jacksonville, FL and Ms. Mary Lee Foster of New York City; goddaughters Vacisy Williams and Christin Sutton of Savannah, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
