Evelyn B. Shipes, age 91, of Savannah, died Saturday, March 1st, 2014 at Hospice Savannah.
A native of Allendale County, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Malcolm Brunson and Nettie Morris Brunson . She helped with Brownies, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, was a Sunday School Teacher, Nursery Worker, and sang in the Choir at Morningside and Antioch Baptist Churches. Evelyn loved to sew, quilt and crochet, and was passionate about flower gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John P. Shipes, Sr., a daughter, Louise Shipes, brothers, Buster, McDonald, Ealey, & Malcolm, Jr. Brunson, sisters, Bernice Brunson, Mildred Carr & Margaret Bailey and is survived by two sons, John P. Shipes, Jr. (Helen) & Charles H. Shipes, Sr. (Sheryl), both of Savannah; brothers, Edward, Earl, & Macky Brunson; sisters, Carolyn Johnson & Mary Louise Williams; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and her special friend, Peggy Burks.
The family will receive friends March 6th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bonaventure Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 7th, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Bonaventure Funeral Home, with The Reverends Buddy Cribb and David Stanton officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park, East in Savannah.
