Henry Arnold Sullivan

Henry Arnold Sullivan, 88, of Pooler, Georgia, went to be with his Heavenly Father on December 13, 2015 after a brief illness.
Henry was born in Blackshear, Georgia on August 5, 1927 to Philo and Maude Sullivan. Henry spent most of his early childhood with his aunts, Emeline Jones and Blanche Jones on their farm in Walkersville, Georgia where he learned a deep appreciation for the outdoors with hunting and fishing being two of his most favorite pastimes.
Henry married his high school sweetheart, Betty Joyce Kelley on April 11, 1948. Henry and Betty had three daughters, Mary Joyce Ingram (Walter) of Bloomingdale, Georgia, Patricia Dianne Klevinski (Mark) of Pooler, Georgia and Bonnie Beth Thomas (Michael) of Dobson, North Carolina. With a wife and three daughters, people often referred to the Sullivan family as Henry and his “Harem.” Henry enjoyed the company of his two grandsons, Henry Grant Sullivan and Shawn Christopher Hardison. He dearly loved his great-granddaughters, Taylor Sullivan, Savannah Hardison and Isabella Sullivan. Henry was predeceased in death by his beloved wife Betty in June 1998.
Henry served in the United States Navy Reserve between 1945 and 1946 and was called to active duty in 1950. He trained as a deep sea diver and served on the USS Amphion. He was honorably discharged in 1951. After World War II, Henry went to work at Sears & Roebuck on Bull Street in 1947 as an auto mechanic. He retired in 1973 as the back station manager.
After doing as much hunting and fishing as he could, in 1973 he went to work as an industrial mechanic at Derst Bakery in Savannah. He retired as supervisor of the Maintenance Department in 1990 at the age of 63.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 16, from 4 until 6 pm at Fairhaven Funeral Home – Garden City Chapel.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 17, at 10:00am, at Fairhaven Funeral Home – Garden City Chapel conducted by the Reverend David C. Laughner.
Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
