Mr. Henton Thomas, 76, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born on June 7, 1932 in Dublin, GA. He graduated from Beach High School in Savannah, GA in 1950. He graduated Cum Laude from Savannah State University with a B.S. Degree. He received a Masters Degree in Education from Georgia Southern University in 1971. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, a member & President of Savannah Gents, Inc.; a former Scout Master; the first V.P. of Cloverdale Civic & Social Organization. He was a former Sunday School Teacher for the JR Boys Class, Financial Secretary, President of Brotherhood, former President of the Senior Choir, and Man of the Year at St. Paul Baptist Church. He was awarded the honors of: Teacher of the Year at East Broad St. School, Teacher of the Year at Hubert Middle School, and a Founding Member & first Secretary of the S.S.U. Foundation. He joined the U.S. Army in January 1951, attaining the rank of Sergeant after eight months of service. He served in Germany. He was Honorably Discharged in December 1953. He taught in the public schools of Chatham County where he served in the capacities of Teacher, Counselor, & Ass. Principal. He joined the Staff of Savannah State University as the Director of Special Services. He retired as the Director of Counseling & Testing. He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Rachel E. Thomas of Savannah, GA; two sons, Anthony K. Thomas of Savannah, GA, and Kevin E. Thomas of Miami, FL.; four brothers, David Thomas (Gladys) of Vienna, GA, Herbert Thomas (Joann) of Augusta, GA, Eugene Thomas (Vinola) of Evans, GA, and Bernard Thomas of Paterson, NJ; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends. Funeral services for Mr. Henton Thomas will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Pentecostal Miracle Deliverance Church, 4712 Bull Street, Elder Willie Ferrell officiating. Interment: Magnolia Memorial Gardens. Visitation: 6:00 - 7:00 pm Monday, November 24, 2008 in the Williams & Williams Funeral Home Chapel. Reposing at the church from 9:00 am until hour of service.
