Mrs. Ima Carter Terrell, 91, of Savannah, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2015 under the care of Hospice Savannah.
She was born in Bloomingdale, Georgia on May 25, 1924, the daughter of Charles Cater and Mrs. Ralph Sapp Carter. She was raised at the Savannah Home for Girls due to her father’s early demise. She was the owner and operator of the Mar Jane Shop on Bull Street for years and later the Ballonny Tunes Franchise. She would dress like a clown, deliver the balloons and sing a song to the person. She also sold Mary-Kay Cosmetics. Ima has been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1937. She was active many years in the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) and a Sunday school teacher. In 1997 she was nominated for the prestigious "20th Century Distinguished Service Award", she received a certificate and a "Torch Bearer 1997" Medallion.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Terrell; her sisters, Sadie Hathaway and Inez Carter and her brother, Lonnie E. Carter.
Survivors are her sister-in-law, Evelyn B. Carter, and special almost adoptive daughter, Jan Martin.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 pm, Sunday at the Bonaventure Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be held Monday morning at 11 am at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park East in the Rose section, 1600 Wheaton Street Officiating will be Reverend Enoch Hendry.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church or to Hospice Savannah.
