Jerry Jerome Mcclendon

May 10, 1940 — June 17, 2012

Jerome McClendon, age 72, departed this life on Sunday morning, June 16, 2012 at Westview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Port Wentworth, GA where he had been a resident for several years.

He was the son of the late Howard and Nettie McClendon and was born May 10, 1940 in Savannah, GA where he attended school and graduated from Alfred E. Beach High School. Jerome grew up in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Sunday School where he was mentored by his uncles , the late Deacon Clifford and Chester Spaulding.

He was first married to the late Covados Mitchell of Hazelhurst, GA where three children were born. He lived and worked in Hazelhurst and was a very out going and giving person who loved people, especially his family. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Spaulding, Handy, and Wilson Family Reunion.

Jerome later married Dorothy Mosley and moved to Mauldin, SC. He attended church both in Hazelhurst and Mauldin. When his health failed, his sisters, Nettye and Delores, moved him to the Nursing Home in Savannah. Jerome was also a truck driver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his first wife, their only daughter, Shaunda; their youngest son; and his youngest brother, Stanley.

Jerome leaves to mourn his passing: three devoted sisters, Nettye Handy Evans of Brunswick, GA, Delores Seligmann and Beverly Sloan of Savannah, GA; two brothers, Clifford Handy of Plumes Lake, CA and Howard McClendon (Hagikah) of Atlanta, GA; son, Jerry DeVonnie McClendon of Hazelhurst, GA; former wife, Dorothy Mosley McClendon; stepson, Antoine Mosley; two stepdaughters, Sharon Wright (Dwayne)of Charlotte, NC and Antoinette Mosley of Mauldin, SC; two granddaughters, Cameo McClendon and Jessica Brown (Ron) of Hazelhurst, GA; two step grandsons; a great grandson; a great granddaughter; eight nephews; four grandnephews; two great grand nephews; three nieces including, a special niece, Julie Jackson; one grandniece, all of Savannah, GA; two aunts, Mrs. Minnie Marie Blue and Mrs. Johnnye Mae Spaulding of Savannah, GA; a host of cousins; and many friends who will cherish his memories.

Funeral service for Mr. Jerry J. McClendon will be held 11AM Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, 601 E. Henry Street. Rev. Franklin D. Blackshear officiating. Interment, Oakgrove Cemetery. Reposing at the church Saturday 9:00AM until hour of service.
