Jewette Fort Ray of Pooler passed away peacefully at home under the care of Hospice of Savannah after a long illness.
Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Sius and Mildred Fort, her loving husband of 52 years William (Billy) Ray.
She leaves behind 2 sons Jimmy Ray of Pooler, Bruce Ray (Tina) of Pooler, 5 grandchildren, Michelle Gibbs (Shane) of Ellabell, Harley Ray (Brandi), Brian D. Ray of Savannah, Austin Ray (Sarah), of Pooler, Brent Ray (Krista) of Pooler. 6 great-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, a sister, Myrna Fort Milstery of Glennville, a brother, Melvin Fort (Linda) of Glennville, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Born in Appling County, she was a graduate of Surrency High School. After her marriage they moved from Glennville to Savannah.
Mrs. Ray was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother that loved being with her family, studying her Bible, and worshiping her Lord and Savior.
In 1971 she went to work for Sunshine Fence Co. as secretary and bookkeeper. Then was secretary and bookkeeper for Krispy Chic, Inc. until her retirement in 1999 after 27 years of service.
Mrs. Ray was a Christian of the Baptist faith and a Charter member of West Chatham Baptist Church of Pooler since it's beginning on May 31, 2001 and served many positions including church secretary until 2013. Her love of God and trust in Him is a true testament and inspiration of her unwavering faith and will live on through the many lives she has touched.
