John Dominick Porzio, III, age 80, died March 2, 2011 at Hilton Head Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, March 6, 2011 from Scared Heart Catholic Church with Father John Lyons, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Born in Savannah, he graduated from Benedictine Military School and Armstrong College. He was the owner and operator of Porzios Restaurant and Package Shop. He was a former President of the Savannah Restaurant Association and a director of the Georgia Restaurant Association. During the Korean War he served in the US Navy. He was a member of Legion Post 135 and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. He was a former member of the Italian Club and a founding member of the Palmetto Bluff Yacht Club of Bluffton, S.C. John was a life long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents John D. Porzio, Jr. and Lenora Weber Porzio Waid.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Hannelore P. Porzio, two daughters Lenora Everett (Jack, Jr.) and Angela Conlee (Phil), three sons John D. Porzio, IV, Nicholas Porzio (Marie) and Charles Porzio along with ten grandchildren: John D. Porzio, V (Amanda), Matthew Porzio, Maureen Porzio, Anna Everett Wallace (Ray), Elizabeth Everett, Jacqueline Everett, Monet and Brigitte Porzio, Philip and Rachel Conlee as well as his dear brother, Paul J. Porzio.
Family will be receiving friends from 5:00-6:30PM, Friday, March 5, 2011 with Rosary being said at 6:30PM at Bonaventure Funeral Home Chapel.
