We Celebrate the life and memory of Joseph Black 94 whose death occurred on Thursday,
December 30,2021 at Riverview Health Care Center.
Joseph was born on January 2,1927, a native of Savannah, Georgia. The only child of the late
Ms. Alice Black. After the death of his beloved mother, he was raised by his aunt the late Mrs.
Edna Ward. He was educated in Chatham County Public School System. As a young man he
gained employment at Union Camp, now International Paper as a machinist. Retiring after 42
years of service. At a young age also under the guardianship of his grandmother, the late
Patience Black, he joined as member of St Phillip Monumental AME Church. He was preceded in
death by his mother Alice Black, Aunt Edna Ward, and wife the late Lauretta Singleton Black.
Joseph was a devoted and loving family man. He leaves to mourn four children, Angela Black of
Riverdale Ga, Althea Jackson of Savannah GA, Vincent Black of Hampton GA., and Joseph Black
(Sonia) of Statesboro GA. Seven stepchildren, Linda Singleton, Tonya Singleton and Ronald
Singleton all of Savannah GA. Arthur Allen (Brenda) of Savannah GA. Connie Kennedy (Leroy),
of Savannah GA. Sylvia Lamb (Ronald) of Marilyn and Debra Jones of Savannah GA. Loving
cousins Rosa L. Campbell, Janie Goodine and Abraham Scott all of Savannah GA. A number of
grandchildren and great - grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews’ relatives, and friends.
