Lonnie Ernest Norton, Sr., “Buster”, 70, of Savannah, died Monday, January 4, 2016 at his residence, under the care of Hospice Savannah, Inc.
He was born in Savannah, and was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Calvin Norton and Trafalgar Tuten Norton; his son, Lonnie Ernest “Ernie” Norton, Jr.;and a brother, James “Buddy” C. Norton.
He was retired from CSX Railroad, where he served as a Carman for 41 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing at Oakland Plantation.
Lonnie was known for lending a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He was a member of Silk Hope Baptist Church, and a loving husband and father.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart, wife of 48 years, Jeanelle Hadden Norton, daughter, Amy Norton, sisters, Mary Frances (O.C.) Sanderson, Juanita Googe, and Margaret (Harold) Wilson, chosen family, Jenny, Tyler, and Bryce Bunton, and many nieces, nephews, and other family.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Garden City Chapel,with funeral services , Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m. at Silk Hope Baptist Church, with Rev. Jonathan Phillips, and Dr. Michael “Dusty” Reynolds, officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
