Lucile Foster Gunnels, 96, of Port Wentworth, Ga., died March 6, 2016 at Westview Nursing Home, after a short illness.
She was born in Carroll County, Ga., and was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Lee Gunnels, and her sons, Herbert Lawrence Butler and Richard Lamar Butler..
She was retired from Georgia New Way Laundry, having worked as a seamstress.
She was a Founding Member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church that was started in 1956, along with 32 members.
Lucile has been a member of the Port Wentworth Christian & Missionary Alliance Church for 60 years, where she was the pianist for many years.
She enjoyed her garden and flowers, her church, Sacred Harp singing, playing the piano, and making quilts.
She is survived by a son, David Lee Gunnels, Guyton, Ga; daughter in law, Marjorie Martin Butler, Las Vegas, NV; sister in law, Mazelle Foster of Columbus, Ga; grandchildren, Shari Butler
Leigh Medina (Rick), Craig Butler (Stacy) all of Las Vegas, NV; David L. Gunnels, Jr., Bloomingdale, Ga; Tammy Shreve (Dennis) of Rincon, Ga; Regina Guay, Tony Gunnels, Shana Sullivan (Jeremiah) all of Port Wentworth, Ga., and Ashley Sanchez (Luis) of Hardeeville, SC; 14 great grands, and 3 great great grands, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6 – 8 p.m. Friday at the Port Wentworth Christian & Missionary Alliance Church.
Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Port Wentworth Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, with interment in Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
