Buffalo Bill Robinson enetered into eternal rest at Riverview Health and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, July 1, 2012. Buffalo Bill was born May 5, 1923 in Savannah, Georgia. He was the 10th of 13 children born to the late Major and Sarah Robinson, both of Savannah.
As a young man, Buffalo changed his name to Major after his father, and he was also known as "Hammer", a childhood nickname given to him. Major worked as project builder with the WPA (Work Project Administration) until 1944. While working with the WOA, he traveled to Pearl Harbor and played an intregal part of the clean up effort after its bombong. He then moved to New York and found factory work as a hat blocker and designer. This later afforded him the opportunity to bring his siblings from Savannah and provide for them a new life.
He met his first wife, Francine Lemon, and they soon married from 1951 until 1955. In the early 60's Major married his second wife, Ruth of Colorodo, and to this union was born his only child, Margarita.
After his factory position, he then aquired, with the help of his niece, Bernice Worsley, a career at Creedmoor State Hospital as a grounds worker, CSEA Local 988. He retired in 1988.
After retirement, Major moved back to his hometown of Savannah to join his remaining retired siblings. He became a helping hand to his community. He was a very kind man who would help his brethren in any way he possibly could. He was a God fearing Christian who praised Christ openly. Until his death, he was a proud member of Tremont Temple Baptist Church, where he was made to feel whole as he relished the presence of the Lord.
Major "Hammer" Robinson leaves to mourn his passing; a daughter, Margarita Loren Rivera of Colorodo; three grandsons, Terrell 11, Quentin 8, and Nicholas 4; sister, Juanita Robinson of savannah, Georgia; brother, and wife, Lawrence and Nellie Robinson also of Savannah, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service for Major Robinson will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 1110 MLK, Blvd. Rev. Quentin J. Morris officiating. Reposing at the church Tuesday 9 a.m., until hour of service.
