Malverta L. Simmons, age 88, died Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Hospice Savannah with her family by her side.
Malverta was born November 27, 1922 in Emanuel County to the late Sylvester Langley and Nancy Houston Langley. She attended school in Chatham County. In 1941 she married William Truell, and they had one daughter, Yvonne Truell Jackson. She was a faithful and devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was also a member of the Senior Choir, Sunday School Teacher, member of The October Group and a Den Mother cub scouts church based troops, and served as a senior companion at the Ruth Byck Adult Day Care. She also has done private sitting as well.
In May of 1947 she met and married Thomas N. Simmons.
Survivors include: Thomas N. Simmons, Jr., (Tammy), Joseph J. Simmons, Sr., (Mary), Olivia S. Frazier (Jackie), Sylvester Simmons, Herbert C. Simmons (Davina), Lorraine Allen, Virgina Hawkins (Leroy), one sister, Rose Mae Doyle of Washington, DC, one brother, Joseph Langley of New York City, two nieces, one nephew, thirty six grandchildren, forty nine great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and two step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Truell, Thomas N. Simmons, Sr., one daughter Alzata Lewis, four grandchildren, Tiffany and Marcus Allen and Rose Mary Simmons and Jamie Jackson.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Hospice House of Savannah for their care and service to their mother, and a very special thanks to Home Health Nurse, Kathy Lewis and Home Health Aide Sonja Jackson for all their service and care.
