Margaret Peavy Nelson

Margaret Peavy Nelson of Savannah, Georgia passed away on December 8, 2015.
She was born in Toombs County, Georgia on February 13, 1928 to Lillie Maude Peavy and Benjamin Pickett Peavy. She attended Berry College in Rome, Georgia and married Lane Henry Nelson, Sr. on September 16, 1949. In addition to working as a homemaker, Mrs. Nelson worked intermittently for the Chatham County Tag Office, the Chatham County Elections Board, and the Chatham County Board of Education as a substitute teacher. She was a member of the Amity Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Nelson was predeceased by her parents, her sister Kathleen Burkhalter, and her brother John Peavy. She is survived by her husband, Lane Henry Nelson, Sr.; her son, Lane Henry Nelson, Jr. and his wife Marian; two beautiful granddaughters of whom she was most proud: Elizabeth Nelson Slater (Stanley) and Margaret Olivia Nelson; her brother, George Peavy; Sister-in-Law Betty Peavy, Brother-in-Law Cleveland Burkhalter, nieces Connie Burkhalter Deal (James), Susan Burkhalter Nettles (Chris), and Sandra Lowery; and nephew Eric Peavy.
The family wishes to thank Dr. William Wallace and his staff, the Compassionate Care Hospice staff, and several neighbors who all cared for Mrs. Nelson over the last several months. They also send special thanks to Sandra Lowery for her gracious loyalty and dedication in caring for her aunt.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 11 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Bonaventure Funeral Home, and graveside services will occur on Saturday, December 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park-West.
Memorials may be made to the Savannah Humane Society.
