Matthew Kyle Smith, 30, passed away in his Manchester, New Hampshire, home on Friday, February 12, 2016. Born August 10, 1985, in Garden City, Georgia.
Matt is survived by his husband, John Arico, who provided Matt with love and support during his overwhelming battle with cancer, until Matt's final moments. Matt will be grieved deeply by his husband, his parents, Robert and Linda Smith of Savannah, GA, his sister Casey (Smith) Shuman and brother-in-law Justin Shuman, his niece and nephew, Leighton Shuman and Silas Shuman, all of Pooler, GA, his in-laws, Ruth and John Reynolds of Londonderry, NH and Edward Arico of Bonita Springs, FL, his aunt and uncle Glenda and Billy Herrin of Guyton, GA, his aunt Brenda Shahal, of Guyton, GA, and he is also lovingly survived by many cousins and friends.
Matt loved returning to Savannah to spend time with family, particularly, with his niece and nephew whom he cherished, as well as to see the blooming azaleas. Matt graduated from Groves High School in Georgia in 2003 and then came to Boston, attending Emerson College, where he earned his degree in film studies in 2008. A talented artist, Matt will not only be remembered for his drawings and paintings, but also for his talented writing and his love for photography.
In Boston, he developed a passion for travel and transit and was proud to be a railroad conductor on the Commuter Rail (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority). His coworkers, passengers, friends, and family will all miss Matt for his sense of humor. He had the gift of connecting with people, and made friends across the country through his unparalleled wit and undying love for movies and pop culture.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, March 18th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Fairhaven Funeral Home & Crematory, 2794 Highway 80 W, Garden City, GA 31408 . A memorial service will be conducted in the funeral home at 7:00 p.m.
