Melodia B. Martin

October 22, 1932 — February 3, 2013

On February 3rd, 2013 Melodia B. Martin took leave of her earthly vessel and entered into the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was born on October 22nd, 1932, the only child of Marie Brown, in Hawkinsville, Georgia. She spent her early years in Hawkinsville raised by her grandmother Eliza Jane. She adored her grandmother so much that you would have thought she was the only grandchild.
She later joined her mother and step-father Henry Goethe in Savannah. While still in her teens she joined Tremont Temple Church at which she took part in the junior missions, choir and bible study. She attended Florence Elementary School and graduated from Tompkins High School in 1951.
That same year she met Jimmie R. Martin. They were married on February 4th, 1952, and together they raised five children.
Travel throughout the states would become an integral part of Melodia’s life due to her husband’s military career. Melodia, like many military wives today, supported her husband’s career…ever ready to pack up and move with children in tow to whatever destination that may have been assigned, and/or to keep the home-fires burning while he was on foreign soil.
She loved to embroider and was an avid sewer, thus allowing her to hold a position as a seamstress. Her fondness for clothes and nick-knacks made “retail clerk” an obvious fit and led to her opening her own little neighborhood shop.
Melodia leaves to carry on her memory her husband; five children, Angela Martin-Carter (King) of Harbor City, California, Ardra Martin-Williams (Will, deceased) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ava Martin-Loyd (Clint) of Mira Loma, California, Jimmie R. Martin, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada and Alan Kerry Martin of Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren, Anika, Aarika, Ebony, Asia Lee, and Clint Alexander; and one great-grandchild, Josilyn Erin; Sister-cousins Aretha W. Johnson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Lenora W. Gray (Daniel) of Charlottesville, Virginia, Bertha Lee Simmons of Chicago, Illinois; half-sister, (Etta) Elaine Cox of Miami, Florida and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 am to 10:30 am Friday, February 15th at the Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 10:30 am.
Interment will be in Magnolia Memory Gardens.
