With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Eloise Crowley, affectionately known as “Mother Crowley,” “Mom,” or “Grammy,” who passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, at the age of 95.
Born on December 31, 1929, in Little Creek, Andros, Bahamas, Eloise was the beloved daughter of Nathaniel and Melvina Farrington (Knowles). She grew up alongside her 14 siblings and was known for her bold personality, quick wit, and her ‘fight no flight” spirit. She had many stories of her adventures as a “woman who wasn’t afraid of anyone or anything.” This later became a testament to just how much God changed her life.
In 1950, Eloise married Donald Smith, and together they had a daughter, Pandora Smith, who was her pride and joy. In 1962, she left her beloved Bahamas to start a new life in the United States, where she embraced new challenges with her signature fearlessness and determination. Later, in 1988, Eloise married Milton Crowley, in Miami, Fl and the two shared many cherished years of love and companionship.
A woman of great faith, Eloise gave her life to God in the early 1980s. Her deep commitment to her faith was shown through her leadership role as the head of the Young Matron’s Committee at Sweetfield Missionary Baptist Church. Her service to God, her family, and her community never wavered, and she was a steadfast presence in the lives of all who knew her. In December 2025, Mother Crowley became an e-member of Family Worship Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Eloise was predeceased by her parents, Nathaniel and Melvina Farrington (Knowles); all of her siblings; her daughter, Jenny Mae Ambrister; her grandson, Bennett Minnis Jr., and her great-grandson, Joseph Smith. Her passing leaves a profound void, but her legacy lives on through her family, who carry with them her wisdom, faith, and unyielding spirit.
Eloise is survived by her daughter, Pandora Mikell; her grandchildren, Abigail King (Keith King) and Tabitha Harris (David Harris); her great-grandchildren, Reeana Johnson, Willimena Griffin, Jayda Smith-Senat, Eryka Smith-Senat, and Yvenson Louis; and her great-great-grandchildren, Angel Jones and Eloi Covington. She is also survived by a host of extended family and friends who were blessed to know and love her.
Rest in peace, Eloise. Your fierce love, strength, and faith will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing you. We will see you again!
