Mr. Murphy Cooper Jr. died peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 2, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 13, 1933 in Screven County, the only child of his mother Jessie Mae Cooper , who died when Murphy was an infant. He was reared by his uncle, the late Richard Young and his grandmother, the late Amy Verdery. His father, Murphy Cooper Sr. and step mother Vannie Cooper also preceded him in death. He lived in Savannah for 58 years and he retired from ILA local 1414 in 1995. In the early 70's, he joined First Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Henry Boles. This was a membership he faithfully held until his death. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: a devoted wife, Mary G. Cooper; one daughter, Pamela (Billy) Thompson; four sons, Attorney Murphy Alan (Trena) Cooper III, Dr. Carl Jerome (Stacey) Cooper, Barry James Cooper, and Gary Turod Cooper; 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral service for Mr. Murphy Cooper, Jr., will be held 12 Noon Saturday, November 8, 2008 at First Friendship Baptist Church, 506 East Hamilton Court. Reposing at the Church from 10 a.m., until hour of service. Visitation: 7-8 p.m., Friday, November 7, 2008 in the Chapel of Williams & Williams Funeral Home. Interment: Bonaventure Cemetery (Greenwich Section).
