Nancy Sandiford Lewis

November 19, 1937 — January 1, 2016

Nancy Sandiford Lewis, 78, died peacefully at home surrounded by her husband Cleon Lewis and their four sons. She was born in Savannah, Georgia, and was a graduate of Commercial High School. A devout Christian, she was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the Silver Nuggets, and the Good Neighbor Sunday School Class. She was President of the Parkersburg Garden Club, member of the Savannah Garden Club – Botanical Gardens and was President of the Clarkesville Garden Club in Clarkesville, Georgia. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and loved working in the nursery.
She had the God given ability to make everyone feel unconditionally loved. Everyone that knew her loved her. She gave her whole life to loving and serving others, especially her family. She was Room Mom at school for each of her four sons. She was affectionately called OoHoo by her grandchildren and great grandchild and all of their friends who had the pleasure to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sandy and Myrtie Sandiford. She is survived by her loving Husband of 60 years Cleon Lewis, their four wonderful sons Chuck Lewis, Craig S. Lewis, Carey Alan Lewis and Chad Lewis. Six beautiful grandchildren Chip Lewis, Brett Lewis, Amanda Lewis, Stephanie Lewis, Taylor Lewis and Chasen Lewis. One great granddaughter Madelyn Kate. Two wonderful daughters in laws Karla Lewis and Kathy Lewis. One sister, Louise Highsmith. Special members of the family Francois du Plessis and David Myers. One sister in law Fredna M. Yost. Her two wonderful nieces that were very close to her heart Terri Miles and Coni Curtas (Brett). Many more cousins and great nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Chariese McCoy who went the extra mile in loving and caring for my Nancy. Also a special thank you to Dawn Darley, Hospice of Savannah Nurse, who gave my Nancy a very peaceful passing to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 8th from 4-7 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9th at Immanuel Baptist Church, 7375 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406, with Rev. Dr. Morgan D. Kerr, Officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
