Patricia Zoucks Ownbey - Savannah, 84, died Tuesday, June 30 in her home with her family by her side. Pat was born in Savannah on February 5, 1931, to Ray and Vena Zoucks.
She graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon, GA in 1953 and taught English in several states. She married USAF Lt. Col. Jim Ownbey (Ret.) on June 2, 1957, and enjoyed 58 years with him. During her travels across the country, leading the life of an Air Force Gypsy, Pat became an avid horsewoman and lover of dogs and cats. A stickler for grammar, Pat instilled a love for literature and good writing in her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and students. She was a third-generation member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was baptized as a child and came home to last year. Before returning to Savannah and after her Air Force years, Pat lived in Richmond HIll, GA and Ingram, TX, among many other cities in Texas. She and Jim traveled extensively, having visited all 50 states and 22 countries.
She is survived by Jim Ownbey, her sister Susan Zoucks Thompson, her three children, James Matthew Ownbey, Ellen Ownbey Donham, Thomas Ownbey, eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
The famiy is grateful to Hospice Savannah and especially Sharlotte Cuevas, RN and Dr. Kelly Erola, who were wonderful comforts to the family as they cared for Pat. Special thanks are also extended to Rev. Enoch Hendry, who was generous with his love and suppport during this time.
Memorial Services: 2 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Enoch Hendry, officiating.
