Rev. Lloyd E. Dees of Rincon passed away Thursday February 4. He was 85 years old. A United Methodist minister, Rev. Dees served for over 25 years in the New York Conference. Prior to that he was pastor of United Methodist and A.M.E. churches in West Virginia, Bermuda and New Jersey and was human rights commissioner of Wheeling, West Virginia and chaplain at North Carolina A&T University. Upon retiring in 1999, he and his wife moved to Rincon, where he continued to serve United Methodist churches in the Savannah area. In New York, he was involved with many charitable organizations including Habitat for Humanity. In Georgia, he continued to be an active community participant and volunteered with several local organizations including the Effingham County Democratic Committee, and the NAACP, and was chairman of the advisory board for the Coastal Regional Commission of Georgia Area Agency on Aging. He is survived by his wife Dolores Dees; son Jason Dees (daughter-in-law Crystal); daughter Janet Dees; seven brothers, one sister; brother-in-law and sisters-in-laws; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
