My friends, death has once more invaded our ranks and have removed from the walks of life Mr. Samuel D, Golden "Duke", his soul having departed to dwell in heaven with his Lord. It is with heavy hearts that Bonaventure Funeral Home, announce that on July 18, 1960, God made a deposit in the earth realm and then on January 2, 2023 at 11:28 pm, God made a withdrawal of His deposit and called him home.
Samuel David Golden affectionately known to many as “Duke” was born on July 18, 1960 to the late
Elder Samuel Golden and Nancy Beatrice Golden. Duke attended Chatham county public schools and
graduated from Robert W. Groves High School in 1978. He accepted Christ at an early age, and was
baptized at Little Bryan Baptist Church in Savannah, GA. He later relocated to Decatur, GA where he
attended and volunteered at Berean Baptist Church in Lithonia, GA. Duke was employed with Atlanta
Public Schools for 22 years. In 2019, he was recognized and honored as the 2019 Support person of the
year. Over the last decade or so, he worked at Burgess Peterson Academy where he formed lasting
relationships and bonds with his colleagues and students alike. He always stayed in touch with his
friends and classmates from West Savannah and Hudson Hill. Duke recently returned to Savannah and
became an honorary member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.
On Jan 2 nd 2023, Duke departed this life on earth to join his heavenly father. His faith never wavered,
and he fought to the very end. He loved God, his family and the Dallas Cowboys. He left a lasting legacy
with his family as a protector who always kept the peace. He also left an indelible mark on everyone that
he worked with at BPA. He will forever be known for warm spirit, beautiful smile and unwavering
support and love for his beloved Dallas Cowboys.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Louis and Daisy Golden, maternal grandparents
Claude and Gertrude Bacon. He was also preceded in death by his father, Elder Samuel Golden Sr. and a
brother, Bernard Weston.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his mother, Mrs. Nancy B. Golden, daughter Ms. Takelia Josha
Golden and a grand-daughter Ms. Aniyah J Wilcox. Three sisters, Beverley Golden- Ruth of Stonecrest,
GA, Gina Golden- Raines ( Eugene) of Savannah, GA and Shawn Golden- Laws (Robert) of Hinesville, GA.
Two brothers, Louie B. Golden ( Donna) of Covington GA and Velton Golden of Buckhead GA. Two aunts,
Mrs. Delores Bradshaw and Betty Ellington of Savannah. One uncle, Lewis Golden (Uncle Rabbit) of
Richmond Hill, GA. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend Ms. Debra
Wiggins of Decatur, GA.
