Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”
Shirley Mae Cotton was born the 3rd child of Calvin and Rever Davis on February 27, 1941, in
Savannah, Georgia.
Shirley was educated in the public Schools of Chatham County and graduated from Alfred E.
Beach High School in 1960. After graduation, Shirley worked at Carson Chemical, Linen Supply
and Coastal Chemical Plant.
Shirley met and married her high school sweetheart Clarence Cotton, Sr. and to this union one
child was born. Shirley gave her life to Christ at an early age where she joined Abyssinia Missionary
Baptist Church and loved working in her church raising money for various fund raisers. She was
persistent in her asking and she would say “they can only tell me yes or no.” Shirley donated much
of her time and talent to her church and attended until her health began to fail.
Shirley loved her family, and it was obvious in her every day living. She loved cleanliness and was
always willing to help her siblings during family events and holidays. Shirley was always the life of
the party. There was never a dull moment if she was around. Shirley lived her life everyday like as
if was her last day with no regrets. During the early morning hours on March 21, 2023, where
Shirley gained her heavenly wings surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Rever Davis, sisters, Joretha Reed,
Ernestine Murphy, and Patricia Wright.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter Pamela Joan Cotton, one grand-daughter
Dionne Janetra Cotton, sister, Beverly Davis and one brother Calvin Davis, Jr. Brothers-n- law,
Edward Wright Sr. Willie Murphy Jr. of Savannah, Ga and William Reed of Dover, Delaware and
a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members as well as friends.
