Dr. VasileManoliudied on November 3, 2015 in Chicago, IL, at the age of 90.
Dr. Manoliu is survived byhis sons Mircea (Cynthia Sadkin)and Mihai. His beloved wife of 56 years, Elena, preceded him in death (Jan. 2010). Dr. Manoliu emigrated with his familyfrom Romania to Savannahin 1972 and resided there for 38 years. He worked as a Quality Assurance Coordinatorat Georgia Regional Hospital from 1980 until his retirement in 1996.A noted historian of medicine in Romania, he remained true to his passion for History of Medicine, attending numerous international congresses from 1966 until 2002.
He will be missed by family in Romania - Georgeta,Corina,Mihaela, and Canada - Stela (Liviu),Lilu(Stephanie). He endeared colleagues and friends with his warm and engaging personality which he retained even as his health declined.
Visitation, including Trisagion Service will be held on Sunday, November 8th from 6-8 p.m. at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, 14 W. Anderson St., Savannah. Funeral service Monday, November 9th at 10 a.m., also at St. Paul’s. Interment at Greenwich Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Paul's, Alzheimer's Association or JourneyCare Foundation.
