Vivian Ware Battey

April 19, 1918 — August 4, 2011

Sister Vivian A. Ware-Battey was granted her angel wings on August 4, 2011 at the home of her son, Hulon Ware and daughter-in-law, Annie Ware in Savannah, Georgia.

She was born on April 19, 1918, the seventh child to the union of Mr. Jasper Carroll and Lula Byrd-Carroll, who were the parents to ten children. Nine of her siblings preceded her in death: Leo Jasper, Willie McArthur, Arnett Baster, Alethia Elfredia, Thelma Tresia, Eddita Devora, Alvin Herschel, Baughin Enilsel, and Ariel Devotie, Sr.

Vivian received her education in the Bryan County Public School System. Mr. J.D. Ware, whom preceded her in death, asked for her hand in marriage in 1934. To this union three children were born: Eleanor, Pearison, whom preceded here in death, and Hulon. She was also the mother to one stepdaughter, Banksie. Vivian was a loving and gentle spirited mother.

At an early age, she worked at Bulloch Memorial Hospital in Bulloch County, Georgia, and Derst Bakery. She was also employed at Memorial Health U.M.C., in Savannah, Georgia where she cared for premature newborns in the neonatal unit until she retired.

Vivian loved serving the Lord. She joined Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Groveland, Georgia. Sister Ware served faithfully as a lead singer, choir member and in any other capacities needed. She later moved to Savannah, Georgia where she met and married, Mr. Louis Battey, who also preceded her in death. That same year, she received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit under the late Bishop Devora Tolber’s Ministry. Soon after, Sister Battey excitingly joined Emmanuel Tabernacle Apostolic Faith Church of P.A.W. She served as a faithful member until the day she went home to be with the Lord.

Sister Vivian A. Ware-Battey leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memories: daughters, Eleanor Hamlet (Robert) of Savannah, Georgia and Banksie Cross (Daniel) of Wilmington, New Jersey; son, Hulon Ware (Annie) of Savannah, Georgia; twenty two grandchildren, including Lenora Miranda Nevels and Bernard Ware; several great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; god-daughter, Melanie Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
