William B. Haynes

January 31, 1926 — August 5, 2010

William Brailsford "Bill" Haynes, 84, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday, August 5, 2010, under the care of Hospice Savannah.

William was born in Savannah, Georgia and graduated from Alfred E. Beach High School. He earned a BS in Architecture from Hampton Institute, and a MS in Engineering from the University of Illinois. William was a lifelong benefactor and enthusiastic supporter of Hampton Alumni causes. He also served in the United States Army for two years at the close of World War II. During his long and distinguished architectural career, William served as Staff Architect for Indiana University and Senior Architect for CIT Financial Associates (New York), Senior Partner for Haynes Tabor & Associates (Bloomington, Indiana) and Partner for Haynes-Robinson PC (Atlanta & Savannah, Ga). Through the years, William spearheaded numerous residential and commercial building projects, and was widely recognized as a quietly effective civic and community leader. Along with his many memorable building projects, he established a lifetime of enduring friendships.

William is predeceased by his beloved wife, Sula Gamble Haynes.

Among those who remain to honor his memory are his daughters, W. Lynne Haynes and Lisa S. Haynes; his son, W. Leighton Haynes; his granddaughter, S. Imani Haynes; his sister, Frances Haynes; his brother, Joseph "Sonny" Haynes, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Memorial services for William Brailsford Haynes, will be held 11am Saturday at The Sanctuary of Savannah, 8912 Whitfield Avenue, Savannah, Georgia. Interment: Hillcrest Abbey East.
