Mrs. Willie V. Martin Rhodes was born May 7, 1925 in Savannah, Georgia to the late James and Nancy Martin. God called her home on Sunday, January 26, 2014 after a long battle with leukemia. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur Rhodes and her son Reverend Sherman Martin. Mrs. Rhodes was educated in the Savannah Public School system, worked as a domestic worker, and retired as a nursing assistant after 19 years of service. She was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church. Mrs. Willie V. Martin Rhodes leaves to cherish her memories a loving daughter, Mrs. Carlethia (Leroy) Bentley of Bellingerhill, SC; step-daughter, Wilma Brown of Savannah, GA; daughter-in-law Willie M. Martin of Savannah, GA; seven grandchildren Brian Keith Jackson of Athens, Ga; Lt Col Corey L (Veron) Bentley of Byron, GA; Traci D. Martin of Savannah, GA; Monica D. (Leonard) Jones of Pooler, GA; TSgt Eric L. Bentley of San Antonio, TX; Duane L. (Carolyn) Bentley of Bellingerhill, SC; and Tamara R. Bentley of Beliingerhill, SC; three step-grandchildren, Nicole Thomas of Villa Rica, GA; Donned (Lisa) Rhodes of Waycross, GA and Catrina (Charles) Jackson of Savannah,GA; twelve great-grandchildren; a special cousin Rosemary Banks of Savannah, Ga; a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Savannah. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at St. James A.M.E. church at 12:00. interment will be at Oak Grove cemetery with a Repast immediately following the service.
